Ancient Egyptian Scrapbook

 

You have learned about ancient Egypt.  Now you will get to take a virtual tour of some of the places you studied about.  You will read about three influential queens, tour the Nile River, write your name in hieroglyphics, and create a funny Egyptian journal entry.  Beware!  To create your journal entry you must know your grammar!  PRINT OUT THIS PAGE!  Do not close your browser because this page is linked.

 

 

 

1.     Go to Virtual Egypt.  Scroll down to the section entitled Hieroglyphics.  Click on Alphabet.

Looking at the translations of the letters, write your name.

 

 

2.  Make Your Own Cartouche   Type in your name or a relative’s name and click Engrave It.  Print it!

         

3.     Take a Virtual Tour.  Take a tour of the Giza Pyramids.  You can click on the dots on the map on the left side of the picture to change your location.  Describe what you see in the spaces below.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4.    Take a tour of Karnak next.  While you are touring it, notice the sane.  There are not many trees

or shrubbery around.  Do you see any grass?  What might inhibit these things from growing?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

5.    Go to the National Geographic World site.  Fill in the blanks to create your  own Egyptian Journal.  Print out your entry using the print command on your web browser.

 

6.    Go to the National Geographic World Stories page.  You will read the stories of three queens and their antics.

 

7.    For this activity you will use the link for the National Geographic World Stories page found above.  Click on the movie reel on the right hand side of the screen.  Clicking on it will bring up a box that

may ask you how you wish to view the movie.  Please choose Windows Media Player.  Watch the movie about the Nile River to review the importance of the river in the life of the Egyptian people.

 

8.    If you have time, go back to Virtual Egypt and explore the calculator.  Multiply your age by the number of years you have been in school.   

Write the equation using ancient Egyptian numerals.

 

Right the entire equation for brownie points!

 

9.    You may also explore Egyptian Music.  Music was and still in an important part of life in Egypt.  Can you hear the hand clapping rhythms?  You need not write the answer, just listen to the different rhythms.  Please use your head phones!
