Leaves
Hungry? If you were a plant you would make your own food. Leaves are the plants cooks. They use energy from the sun, water, minerals and carbon dioxide. Leaves rely on the roots to take in the water and minerals from the soil. Leaves rely on the stem to bring up the water and minerals. Leaves have their own special parts to get the energy from the sun. The leaves make food for the plant. This food called sugar (although it’s not the same as the sugar you put on your cereal.)
Leaves can be many different shapes and sizes. They can be wide, thin, flat, broad or narrow.
