Introduction

        Calling all third grade botanists (a botanist is a scientist who studies plants).  It is now up to you to become an expert on plant parts.  By the end of this webquest, you will be able to tell the different parts of plants.  Most plants have 6 basic parts.  You will find out what they are and what they do for the plant. You will be able to name the parts of plants we eat.  At the end of this webquest you and your fellow team of botanists will create a poster showing a plant and the different plant parts.

Process

At the computer:

Read all directions before you click.

1.    Print out the Plant Parts Diagram.

2.    Print out the Plant Parts Functions worksheet.

3.    Go to The Plant Part Links to find your answers.

4.    Go to Build A Salad Page.

In the classroom:

        Using your plant parts and functions information sheets, create a poster showing all that you have learned.  Your teacher will help you assemble your team of fellow botanists.  Your teacher will help you gather the materials you may use.

Evaluation

        The teacher will use the following rubric to assign you a grade:

 

Yes!  -  3 points

Almost - 2 points

Not Yet-  zero points

Participation

Work is done cooperatively. Each student contributes and time is spent on task.

Some lack of partner cooperation.  Time on task is moderate.

One or more students did not work cooperatively.  Not every student contributed.  Little time is spent on task.

Appearance

Work is neatly done.  The poster is appealing to the viewer. 

Work is somewhat neat.  There are a few mistakes that distract the viewer. 

Work is sloppy.  The poster is difficult for the viewer to understand.

Information

Information is accurate and appropriate.  All plant parts are included and correctly labeled.  A title is included.

Some information is missing or incorrect.  A title may be missing.

There are significant errors in presenting the information.  There are parts that are not labeled.  A title may be missing.

Punctuality

Poster is turned in on time.

Poster is one day late.

Poster is 2 or more days late.
