Second GradeGeneral Web Sites Fun Brain offers a variety of skills that can be worked on at this site. Those skills are:
Aplus Math Students can practice addition and subtraction skills while playing Matho and uncovering the hidden pictures. Fun School See a listing of activities your students can do. There is too much to list! This site has fun games that address every content area. Africa Africam This site is lots of fun. See the animals in Africa visit watering holes. This site has been redesigned. They have videos of animals. The videos were working as of 6/15/01 but they have been known not to so please be sure you check to see if the one you want to use is working before you bring your class. Saharan Wildlife You will find pictures, facts, and video clips By PBS. Learn all about the people, land, animals, and national parks in Africa. There is also a collection of links to ther sites about Africa. Antarctica and the Artic Glacier Learn about Antarctica and the animals that live there. The reading level of this site is definately advanced but it would be a great site to project on the wall and explain to the students. The photographs are very interesting. Find out what a glacier is, how it is formed, and where they are! Ocean Project This is a site created by second graders. It has information about all the world's oceans and the animals that live there. The information on the Artic Ocean is very well done. Astronomy My Planet Report This has very easy to read information about the nine planets in our solar system. Students can print out a fact gathering sheet which guides them in finding information for their report. Zoom Astronomy This site has tons of information about the planets, comets, stars, and asteroids. Kids love it. NASA Kids This is a neat site about the solar system. This site has a primary level and a more advanced level for older children. The pictures are spectacular. Arty the Part Time Astronaut This is a cute site. Kids can take a tour of the solar system. There is an online teacher's guide available that gives suggestions and ideas for lessons. Australian Animals Australian Animals There is information about the different Autralian animals at this sanctuary. ThinkQuest! This is a thinkquest site that was made by kids! You will find lots of information on the different animals here. Dinosaurs Zoom Dinosaurs This site has lots of facts and print outs of dinosaurs. The site has a framed version or a non-framed version. Students can click on one choice at a time and compare the difference between frames and non-frames. Famous African Americans Harriet Tubman Did you ever wonder what she looked like? Click her to see her picture and to learn all about her heroic deeds. Jackie Robinson He was definately one of the baseball greats! Learn all about him! Rosa Louise Parks Did you know that she was instrumental in the Civil Rights Movement? Way to go Rosa! Freedom Hero: Sojourner Truth She was the first African American woman to speak out against slavery. Jesse Owens Vist this official site. Booker Taliaferro Washington Did you know that he went to school to become a teacher? Find out how he did it! Insects Enchanted Learning Students can print out worksheets to label insect body parts! There are several insects to choose from. There are also coloring pages. This site could be used in conjunction with the webquest. Students could print out a worksheet about their favorite bug, label the parts, and include it in their class book! Bees This is a very cute learning adventure about bees. Students print out worksheets and gather information to make a bee fact booklet. There are links to other sites where students will find what they need to complete their books. This is a must see! No Bugging Around Webquest! Koday's Kids Amazing Insects You can learn about a lot of different creepy-crawlers here! Spider WebQuest This is a fun way to learn about spiders. When you are done, play the spider concentration game! We can play it together as a class on the TeamBoard! Plants How Plants Grow Learn all about plants and how they grow. Reading Scott Foresman This site has lessons that go along with the weekly stories. Students print out a "worksheet", read information, and fill out the sheet. Students learn how to print from the lab computers as well as navigate a website.
