Fairy Tales in Ancient Times

What you are expected to completed by the end of this lesson:

·       Research and find facts

1.   What is the geography of ancient Egypt?

2.   What type of government does it have?

3.   Who is the ruler for the time your story is set in?

4.   What is the religion of the people?

5.   Information about the social structure and people

·       Write a rough draft, revision, and final product of a fairy tale of your choice that is set in ancient Egypt.  You must have the facts you found in your story.  You need to make this story reflect as much of the culture as possible.

·       You will work in groups of three for peer reviews of your rough draft and revision copy.

Activities:

·       You will use the following websites to locate information on ancient Egyptian life.  The first web page is a selection of links on ancient civilizations.  You are cautioned here that you may only go to the links about ancient Egypt.  http://www.archkckcs.org/technobowl/5ancient/5resource.htm

·       You may conduct searches for information on ancient Egypt at http://www.yahooligans.com. This is a great search engine that will have student appropriate information.  WARNING:  Get an Okay from your teacher before you use any keywords and conduct your search!

·       Make sure you take notes on the information needed to complete your story.  The information needed is: religion, government, ruler, people, and geography of the land.

·       You will decide which fairy tale you wish to write and clear it with the teacher!

·       Write a rough draft

·       Revise your rough draft by having it peer reviewed

·       Finalize your revision after having it peer reviewed for grammar and spelling.  Do you have all the required elements in your story?

Conclusion:

Do you think your story would have been written differently if it were set in the United States during this century?  How do you think it would have been different?
